Editing Contest Details

Open the contest and go to Details.

You can update:

  • Contest name, if you're allowed to (see below)
  • Season label
  • Contest kinds — a comma-separated list (e.g. International Speech, Evaluation).
  • Contest date and time, and timezone
  • Zoom link
  • Status
  • Any custom fields your district has added.

Contest name

A contest is named for its area and division, for example "Area 11 (Division Eastern)". To give it a different name, such as for a combined contest, use the Contest name card at the top of Details:

  1. Type the descriptive part only, for example Combined Contest (Area 11-14). The app always adds the division, so it shows as "Combined Contest (Area 11-14) (Division Eastern)". If you want the area number in the name, type it.
  2. Check the Will show as line, then select Save name. The Save changes button lower down does not save the name.

To go back to the area and division name, clear the box and select Save name. A name can be up to 80 characters and needs at least one letter or number.

The card appears for the district's Coordinators, the contest's Division Director and Area Director, and whoever is seated on the contest as its Contest Chair or Contest Master. Anyone else can ask one of them.

The name shows everywhere the contest does, including the public volunteer signup page and invitation emails.

Season label

Keep the season label as the season, for example Fall 2026. Season Rollout uses it to find the contests that already exist for a season, so a label changed to describe a contest makes a later rollout offer to create that contest again. To describe a contest, use Contest name.

Changing the contest date

If the contest hasn't finished, changing the date recalculates the due date of every incomplete task on the checklist that isn't already due. Before you save, the page shows how many tasks will shift so you're not surprised by it. Completed tasks and tasks without a relative due date aren't touched.

Status

A contest moves through Draft → Active → Complete, or can be marked Archived. Status doesn't gate what you can edit — it's informational and used for filtering.
